The Second Battle of Hurtgenwald was a battle between France and Germany in February 1945, and the French beat off a German counterattack.
Battle[]
The 95th Sturmbattalion and 86th Sturmbattalion of the Wehrmacht attacked the French-held town of Hurtgenwald from the town of Duren, hoping to recapture lost territory. Their counterattack was defeated by the hard-fighting French troops, and the Germans were forced back from Hurtgenwald. The French destroyed the two battalions, and the German survivors retreated.
